Quality assurance for media resonance analysis
Our media resonance analyses are based on systematic analysis of the content of media coverage, which we carry out with the aid of specially developed “code books”. A code book is a precisely defined category plan specifying which components, for example of a newspaper article, are to be coded and how. It contains detailed instructions on coding thematics (Which “occurrences” quoted in the article should be coded?) and coding categories (What has to be considered with the occurrence and in which category is it to be coded?). To ensure the reliability of our measuring instruments, we perform a detailed pre-test prior to each media resonance analysis. Following intensive training, the assigned FairControl employee codes a random sample selection for the reporting investigated. It is subsequently checked whether the coding from the respective employees agree. In the case of deviations, the category plan is optimised and retested. This takes place until the categories formed are complete, discriminating and intelligible and the reliability of the measurements can therefore be guaranteed.
